I had a poem published once, on a dodgy website called Horror Sleaze Trash – it’s called ‘The Bum Gun Tickle’, inspired by the hose they keep next to toilets in Southeast Asia.
I have started writing poetry in earnest and even went and bought a copy of Stephen Fry’s book The Ode Less Travelled so i can learn some actual ideas about how to structure a poem.
Whether or not i ever publish a significant body of poetry, the practice itself has opened up a whole new way of thinking for me, where before i would often feel overwhelmed by the influx of ideas not yet sufficiently formed to be the premise of an essay, i now get them down in a form approximating poetry and can go on my way feeling less burdened.
Here is a poem that has solicited a positive response at a bunch of open-mic events in Adelaide – ‘Heinous Love’.
And here is one that solicited a chuckle from the man i wrote it about, called ‘Finding God‘.
